As a prerequisite for being a teenager you must be broke, feel a constant need to be entertained, and possess a nearly constant urge to get out from under your roof – but, what to do? Where to go? Never fear, Adam is here! And I have for you a few of the best -- and cheapest -- places to hang out in Arlington; hopefully these suggestions will help you cope through the last few months of this school year and cure some of that Spring Fever.
The Thomas Jefferson Community Center is up first. Who would have thought that a laminated piece of paper could open up such an extensive world of entertainment and productivity! You walk in and immediately see a bustling room of people playing pool, ping pong, or just hanging around. A second glance will also show a series of studios for the arts: photography, ceramics, and painting. You name it, they’ve got a studio for it. Oh and did I forget to mention the indoor track and huge arsenal of gym equipment? Yeah, it's definitely something to check out.
Saturday nights are renowned for their inability to live up to expectations, whether it's because you're waiting for someone else to make plans for you or there's just not enough cash in your back pocket. Here is a welcomed alternative: The Wedge, hosted by The Church at Clarendon. Every Saturday night is a $5 night full of new music and that "speak a little louder, I can't hear too well" conversation the next morning.
If you find yourself down along Columbia Pike, you will eventually pass our good ol' Cinema & Drafthouse, a fine example of what South Arlington has to offer. Located at 2903 Columbia Pike, this oldie but goody offers movies, food, and fun, all at a reasonable price of $5.50 (or $1 if you go on a Monday night)! And how? A quick look at the Web site previews a lineup that includes the movie "Twilight" and several nights of stand-up comedy. I'm assuming you want to be entertained? Well, this is the perfect place for you or really…anybody.
So I've given you a list of certain places to hang out around Arlington, but there are many more. Areas like Clarendon and Shirlington have a lot to offer even if you just feel like enjoying the nightlife, the fresh air and the company of friends.
