If you’re feeling the pinch of the economy when it comes to spending money on going out (either because you can't find a job or because your parents no longer can give you an allowance), you might want to consider the free and super cheap movies available in Arlington. Here are some highlights:
“A Midsummer Nights Dream,” playing during Spring Break at 1 pm on Thursday, April 9 at the Shirlington Library. Part of Shirlington Screens. Another upcoming Shirlington Screens film is “Speed Racer” on Saturday, April 25 at 1 pm. Check the Teen Calendar for more free films at the Shirlington Library.
“Stand by Me,” at The Dome Theater (located inside the former Newseum at 1101 Wilson Boulevard), at 6 pm on Monday, April 13. This free film is part of Monday at the Movies! , a precursor to the Rosslyn BID's "I Love the 80s" Outdoor Film Festival that will show a variety of popular 80s films in the Dome Theater. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited to the first 220 moviegoers. Other upcoming 80s flicks include “Who Framed Roger Rabbit" on Monday April 20 and “Uncle Buck” on Monday, April 27.
“Milk” at The Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse on Saturday, April 5 (1:30 pm) and Sunday, April 6 (1:45 pm). Tickets are $5.00. The Cinema & Drafthouse charges only $1 for Monday night movies. Some shows on the current Monday night lineup include “The Tale of Despereaux” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” an Oscar winner.
