
Along with the arrival of later sunsets and warmer evenings, free outdoor movie festivals come to Arlington and the rest of the DC area. I Love 80s Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival: Featuring all those 80s movies that some of your parents may have watched when they were teens: “The Breakfast Club”
(1985), “E.T.” (1982) and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986), just to name a few. Shows start at dusk every Friday night through Sept. 4 at Gateway Park at Lee Highway, near Key Bridge. Bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a picnic on the lawn before the movie gets rolling. The event is free and open to the public. The screening is just two blocks from the Rosslyn Metro and parking is available across the street from Gateway Park at the Atlantic Parking Garage for $3 at 1901 and 1911 N. Ft. Crystal Screen – Superheroes!: On Monday nights from May 4 –Sept, 21, Crystal City will put Batman, Spiderman, Superman, and many other superheroes up on its big outdoor screen. Picnics, blankets and low-back chairs welcome. The free movies start at sundown at 18th and Bell Street in the Courtyard across from the Crystal City Metro Station & Marriott Hotel. NoMa Summer Screen: The NoMa (north of Massachusetts Avenue) Business Improvement District hosts a free summer-long outdoor film festival on Wednesdays in Northeast Washington, DC. The 2009 theme of NoMa Summer Screen is “Music in Pictures,” featuring films about musicians and bands. The event will be held on a large grassy lot, so bring a blanket, a low lawn chair, and a picnic. Each film screening will be preceded by live DJs, special guests, barbeque, and surprises.
