I was in Raleigh, NC.. the other week and after sitting around for a while, I decided to see a movie. Being into the environment, I chose “Food Inc.,” a film about the food industry. Directed by Robert Kenner, “Food Inc.” is an eye-opening documentary that describes exactly where our food is coming from. If you were interested in documentaries such as “Supersize Me,” “King Corn,” or “Fast Food Nation,” you will also be interested in this movie, which is playing at E Street Cinema in D.C.
Here is the trailer to the movie.
Though it may turn your stomach to watch “Food Inc.,” which was first released on June 4, 2009, I still recommend seeing it. It teaches viewers how to make a change in the food industry. Before seeing this movie, I ate meat all the time and didn’t really care about where my food came from, but now I stay away from non-organic meats and eat fewer corn products. You also should drag all of your family and friends to see this movie, especially the ones who think they already know everything.
At the end of “Food Inc,” there are a bunch of tips thrown at you. Here they are along with a few others (courtesy of yours truly):
• Purchase Locally Grown Food
o Helps your community become sustainable
• Stay away from corn products as best as you can (because they are everywhere)
o Promotes the economy of other corn-growing nations and minimizes your sugar intake, which if too high can lead to diseases such as diabetes
• Eat Organic Foods
o Less chemicals in foods benefit your health as well as the planet’s health
• Petition to reinstate Kevin’s Lawo Kevin’s Law basically says that the government can shut down any company that repeatedly sells contaminated foods
• Eat foods in Season
o They couldn’t have been transported from too far away right?(a good place to find in-season foods)
• Support local agriculture --
