At Washington-Lee High School, they have totally redone the entire school. The first building opened in January in 2008, and the second building opened in the fall of 2009. We now have instant Wi-Fi around the entire school and new computers available all over. Normally teachers

Our Library is a great new addition as well. Not only has the library expanded in size but the amount of books too. The library is available in the mornings, at lunch, and after school. Kids go in there for homework and just extra time doing research on one of the many computers available for use. A lot of the time classes will be held in the library and used to their full extent. Many kids love just going there for the simple purpose of reading too.
The Cyber Café has Wi-Fi all around. There are lots of computers for use and students find
themselves in there longer than expected doing various schoolwork. Sometimes math help will even be taught there and it’s a great way in the morning for kids to catch up on
homework they forgot or to tidy up a last minute paper.
Washington-Lee also has a new theater, which seats around 800 people. Here we plan on having numerous performances and it’s a great learning environment for all the performing art students. The theater is sometimes used for assembles and presentations too. The theater arts program at Washington-Lee is very popular and there are a number of different classes that are taught that range from Theater 1 to IB Theater. There is also a room called the little theater, which is located behind the main staircase. The little theater is used primarily for presenting and testing, such as the SAT and the PSAT.
We also have a brand new full-size gym and pool. We now have two Olympic-size pools with swimming lanes and water polo. Our gym is high school sized with baskets all around. It also has pullout bleachers that seat the entire school. There are shot clocks that are atop of the main baskets. The giant gym is now attached to the school so students don’t have to make

The classrooms got a little more advanced. We have smart boards in every room now and
they definitely help the learning environment. They can serve as a TV, computer, and whiteboard, which is truly amazing. Teacher use them every single day, and for lots of different reasons. The learning environment here couldn’t be friendlier.
Being a junior at Washington lee High School is a very unique experience. I bet W-L is a very different learning environment than other high schools. Our technology definitely helps learning, there are many teachers willing to help students, and it’s never a problem to ask for help.
